Re: Origin of the name Omond
This explanation was given to me by Alex Dow via the UK lists on this forum and may help.I suspect that Omond is the same as Omand which one of the names in my family tree.
According to SCOTTISH SURNAMES-
OMAN/OMAND These names come from the Northern Isles, the former being the Orkney spelling and the latter the Shetland, but both are now found mostly (but infrequently) in the Aberdeen area. The origin is the Old Norse personal name Amund, which also produces the Norwegian surname Amundsen: originally it was HAMUNDR, 'high gift'.
