Carolyn, nice to hear from you.You have helped solve a mixup that I have had with Amelia Steiner who married Herman Gottfried Oppelt in PA in 1856.I had thought that John M. Wheland was the third husband of Amelia.I also had shown Marietta Charlotte Oppelt as Marcella Charlotte in my records.
Herman Gottfried Oppelt was the fifth child of Gottfried Sebastian Oppelt and Anna Catharina Westhafer/Westhofer.He was born on July 3, 1809 in Emmaus, Lehigh Co, PA.He died in Gnadenhutten, Tuscawaras Co, OH on January 2, 1874 and is buried there. He married twice and had at least 10 children.
Amelia Steiner and Herman Gottfried Oppelt had 5 children.Besides Henry Herman b. Abt. 1856, PA d. 1932, Gnadenhutten, OH, Frances Robert b. 1860, Gnadenhutten d. 1866, Gnadenhutten, and Marietta Charlotte b. 1861, Gnadenhutten, there was Herman b. Abt. 1858 d. Apr 19 1858, Gnadenhutten; and Henrietta (Meliel) b. Abt. 1865 died young, Aft. 1860, Gnadenhutten.
Herman Gottfried Oppelt was a cigar maker in PA and had previously been married to Lisette C. Michael b. 1810, PA who died in 1853 in Nazareth, PA.Their children were: Edmond/Edmund J. Oppelt, Sr b. Abt. 1835, PA d. 1884, Baltimore; William C. b. 1839, PA d. Aft. 1900, Baltimore; Clarence (Clara?) b. Abt. 1841, PA d. Aft. 1860; Anne b. 1847, PA (Twin) d. Aft. 1860; Sarah b. 1847, PA (Twin) d. 1853, PA, buried Schoeneck Moravian Cemetery, Northampton Co.
Edmond/Edmund J. Oppelt, Sr. married Jennette Abt. 1859, Baltimore. They had 4 children: Louisa b. Abt. 1860; Jennette b. Abt. 1865; Edmund J., Jr Abt. 1868 d. Aft. 1920 and Clara b. Abt. 1874, all born in Baltimore, MD.Edmund J. Oppelt, Sr. had the E.J. Oppelt Company, manufacturers of fine cigars, founded in 1860.
Henry Herman Oppelt married Meeta M. Abt. 1878 in Gnadenhutten. They had one child, Jesse Herman Oppelt b. 1879, Clay Twp, Tuscawaras Co, OH d. Bef. 1941.Jesse married Georgia (Kitty) Victoria Fargo Bef. 1911, OH.They had two sons: Robert Hermann b. 1911, OH and Charles Henry b. 1916, OH.Robert was married twice and he died in 1957 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Supposedly, Robert had 3 children by his second wife (names unknown). His first wife, Wilma P. Eble, died in Arlington, VA in 1996.
