Re: Oroak clan in Maine
Douglas, you are correct in your belief that you are related to the Maine O'Roaks.
I have information about the O'Roak clan in Maine.Margaret Shannon, who married Jeremiah O'Roak is my husband's great grandfather's sister.I have been working on the Shannon genealogy, and have found information about the O'Roaks in the process.
Glen Ritchie O'Roak's parents were Thomas O'Roak, born 2/16/1866 in Macwahoc, Maine. He died 4/29/1924.Thomas' wife was Ada L. McFarland, born 5/24/1872 in Canada; she died 3/13/1963.
Thomas was the son of Jeremiah O'Roak, who was born 12/28/1828 in Ireland, and died 11/24/1880.Jeremiah's wife, Margaret Shannon was born about 1829 in Ireland, and died 4/7/1916 in Macwahoc, Maine.Margaret and Jeremiah are buried in Macwahoc Cemetery.
My husband and I visited the area in July, and met some of the O'Roaks.I am writing to one of Jeremiah's great, great grandaughters to get more of the family history. She has also sent me pictures of some of the family members.
If you would like more information, feel free to email me.I may be able to copy some of the pictures that I have, and email them to you.I also have Margaret Shannon O'Roak's death certificate that I got while I was in Maine, and several marriage certificates for the O'Roaks.I also have pictures of cemetery markers that I took while in Maine, and those are I am able to mail as jpg images.Let me know if you are interested.
Hope this gives you more information.Leta
