William Orvis (b.5-15-1710 in Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT d. 6-14-1774 in West Brattleboro, Winham Co., VT) had a daughter named Anna Orvis (m. Jonathan Sartle Alexander).
I descend from their son Justin Alexander (4-11-1774 in Brattleboro, VT d. 7-6-1854 in Newberry, OH), who married Asenath Jones (1777-1860).
Did William Orvis leave a will identifying Justin Alexander as his grandson through his daugther Anna?
Was Rachel Andrus (wife of Samuel Orvis) an identified descendant of John Carrington? I've read that that this descent is not proven to be accurate.
Here are some clues:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/orvis/messages/359.htmlhttp://genforum.genealogy.com/orvis/messages/359.html According to the Orvis Family in America genealogy Anna was b. Mar 4, 1746. Does not give her mother's maiden name. The notes say she married _______Alexander. One or more of her desc. lived in Newbury Seneca County Ohio in 1857. One was Justin Alexander.
http://genforum.genealogy.com/orvis/messages/358.htmlhttp://genforum.genealogy.com/orvis/messages/358.htmlAnna Orvis was born 4 May 1746 in Northfield, Mass., daughter of William and Anna (______) Orvis. Was she not the first wife of Rev. war soldier Jonathan Sartle (Sartwell) Alexander (b. 1749 at Ft. Dummer)?
According to papers in the pension file, Jonathan married his second wife Bathsheba [(Rice) Hager] in 1792, so it would seem that Anna (Orvis) Alexander died around 1790 or 1791.
Also, does anyone know the maiden name of Anna (______) Orvis, the mother of Anna (Orvis) Alexander? The mother died 19 August 1746, when Anna (Orvis) Alexander was just three months old.
