All,
Primary documentation is indeed key. The "encyclopedia" by Hinshaw is of course an *abstract* and thus considered a *secondary* source, but is about the best such work I have seen. It does not have all Quaker monthly meetings in it though. So today I have done some additional research. I hope this statisfies everybody.
I got the record of Daniel Ozbun's marriage to Margaret Stout from microfilm (Salt Lake Family History Library(SLFHL) film #0371251) of the actual Cane Creek Monthly Meeting records.Page 42 is the record of their marriage. Most of the page is very legible, but the top of the page is dark from water(ink running) or fungus damage. It is still quite legible on microfilm, but the photocopy is harder to read. Anyway --
42Whereas Daniel Ozbun son of Mathew and Isabel _________
Roan County and Province of North Carolina and margaret Stout ___________ and margaret Stout of the County of Orange and province aforesaid ...
The 1st blank part is surely where the name Ozbun is. The 2nd blank would be the name of Margaret's father and the second reference to margaret Stout is to Margaret's mother also named Margaret. The date given is 9th day ___ month year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and sixty ______. Sigh, next visit to the library I'll have to transcribe the dark patches directly from the microfilm. Still, this proves Mathew and Isabel Ozbun as parents of Daniel Ozbun(marr. Margaret Stout) beyond doubt.
Then I followed Mathew and Isabel Ozbun's records of removal and arrival backwards from Cane Creek Monthly Meeting in NC. I did not photocopy, but just made notes --
Hinshaw's Encyclopedia, Vol. 1, North Carolina
Cane Creek Monthly meeting
3rd day 2nd month 1753 Matthew Ozbun received on certificate from Warrington Monthly Meeting, PA dated 10th day 9th month 1752.
Abstract of the Records of Warrington Monthly Meeting, York County, Pennsylvania, by Gilbert Cope(SLFHL 0387937, item#1).
[Note: This MM is not covered by Hinshaw's encyclopedia]
p37 at monthly meeting held 18d 8m 1753
Mathew Ozburn and William Ozburn requests certificates for themselves and families to Cain Creek, North Carolina.
[further back in time]
p10 at monthly meeting held 17d 4m 1749
Mathew Ozbun produced a certificate to this meeting from duck creek monthly meeting for himself and wife bearing date the 18th of the 5th month 1748 recommending them under care as such we receive them.
So we can see that beyond doubt Matthew Ozbun and wife Isabel of Cane Creek Monthly Meeting in NC came from the Duck Creek Monthly Meeting in Sussex Co., DE. Linda, with this additional information and the will of Matthew Ozbun I posted by Candy, do you have any doubts left?
Lee
