(-William Trent who married Charity Burton (who 1st. married Enoch Osborne and so is sometimes called Charity Ossbourne).) This is a QUOTE that has been used in the past, but is not true as we know the history of Enoch Osborne(Sr.) & his son (Jr.). Now the William Osborne who was according to Grayson Co., VA & TN stories was the son of a “Tine” Osborn / Ausburn of VA or NC and Wm.’s mother was a Betsy / Bessie Tyler of NC. So far no paper has been found on either one of them, tho I have found an Andrew “Tine” Osborne / Ausburn of NC/VA /TN. I don’t know if he is the one or not?
-from a very early posting of mine, 2002, Wonder how much truth there is to this? Does any one know this Harold Osborne of West Virginia? He says, “Charity was a sister to Jane & Elizabeth Burton of Grayson Co., VA. There is a family story from a Harold Osborne of West VA that says Charity md. old man Solomon Osborne(who got scalped by the Indians) and that SHE was the daughter of George Reeves of Grayson Co., VA! That she also had a sister named Jane! Could this be possible and if so is this the connection to the Burton’s and Alexander Trent(Jr.) and William D. Trent (Sr.)? We believe Charity was married to William Osborne (b. abt. 1770) in Grayson Co., VA. William Osborne is believed to have died (abt.1796) in Grayson Co., VA. She then would later marry William D. (avid) Trent (Sr.). William’s father was a “Tine” Osborne of VA and his mother was Betsy “Bessie” Tyler, born in Grayson Co., VA. Other spell- ings are Osbourne, Osburn(e), Ozburn(e), Auburn.
-Charity states her birth year in the R. W. App. done for Alex. Trent (Jr.) while he was still living in TN. She also said she remember when Alex. (Jr.) & Jane got married.
-extensive research is needed on the Burton family of VA-NC in order to clear up Jane, Charity and Elizabeth’s lineage!
-Charles Osborn believes that there is still a yet unknown connect- ion between the Burton-Osborn-Reeves families of NC-VA, as -5-
Charity is a name that runs in the Reeves family. Also a great grandson of Jonathan Osborn, brother to Capt. Enoch Osborn said his ancestor had a son name Enoch Osborn. So it may be that the one called “Tine” Osborn or William Osborne in the family story might even have been a William Enoch Osborne. One thing is that if she was md. to an Osborn(e), Ausburn it would most likely have been a son of one of the Grayson Co., Enock Osborne’s....
-AND IF HE was md. to Charity (Burton ) Osborne. It is also specu- lated that since James B. O. Trent was (b. ca.1794) and an Enoch Osborn (b.ca.1798) of Hawkins Co., TN was his neighbor, that they could have been brothers? There was also a William Osborn and Enoch Osborn, sons of Jonathan Osborn, but their up lines are unknown at this time!
-we believe her parents were Robert or John Burton of VA or NC. Here in 2014, based on research by Bob Burton of GA and Anne (Burton) Wash- burn of VA, we can probably say that her father was the Robert Burton of Wilkes Co., NC, who later moves or has activity in Union Co., TN and then ends up in Hawkins / Hancock Co., TN areas and may well have his name spelled as Osborne, Osborn or Ausburn... IF so, then this Robert may well have been a “brother” to John P.(leasants) Burton of the same areas in VA and who moved on westward to IN.
-and their grandparents may be a Richard & Mary (Pleasants) Burton of Goochland Co., VA who moved toWilkes, now Ashe Co., NC some time in the mid-1700’s and had a son of whom we know nothing about, who would have md. and had the two, maybe three sisters of Jane, Charity and Elizabeth?
-I have thought that maybe a Benjamin Burton of Henrico - Chesterfield Co.’s, VA who was a witness on the WILL of Mary Cox of VA, might be a possible father? I do not know his children or grandchildren!
-As stated in at the http://www.angelfire.com/tv/trent/osborne.htmlhttp://www.angelfire.com/tv/trent/osborne.html website “We do not know who Charity & Jane parents were ( the two are known to have been sisters & md. the Trent brothers of Alexander and William) In the mid to late 1700’s many Henrico and Chesterfield Co., VA family names are in the New River Valley areas of VA & NC. That seems to be the last location that many of the early settlers of the 1780 to 1800 time frame came from as reflected in the names of: Trent, Burton, Osborne, Greene, Livesay, Martin, Herd, Hawks, etc.
