The OSCROFTS were, ‘Prolific, independent, sporty, elusive, globe trotters’ they seemingly heralded from the East Midlands (Notts) and moved to Sheffield, Derbyshire, London, Hampshire and beyond our shores to Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada.(I apologise for any I’ve omitted).
This email is sent to unite the descendants of these early OSCROFT’s and by pooling our knowledge provide a database from which we may all benefit as well as providing data to other OSCROFT researchers in the future.
To this end I would ask that you send copies of your OSCROFT family tree to date, together with reference to any sources** and indicating which information is factual (backed up by evidence seen) and which is still to be verified.
**ie. where did you get the information- birth, marriage, death certs, parish records – baptism, banns, marriage, burial, Phillimores lists, IGI, Census –piece and folio no’s, Directories, Armed Services records, School records, Wills etc. etc.
I am already in contact with quite a number of you and have already begun compiling the database which I hope to upload onto it’s own website in due course.Obviously, to those of you that have already provided you OSCROFT data, this email is for information only. The more of us that pool our resources the better; and all contributors will be advised of progress, when the site is ready and if I can help resolve some of your own queries on the way I will be only too happy to help.
The address to send your family history details to is firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like my snail mail address to post anything to me please let me know. You may also send details of any other OSCROFT researchers you think might be interested in this project or you may feel free to pass my email address on to them.
