Sophia Oss' death Certificate
I received Sophia Oss McDonald's Death certificate last week. It really did not provide any new answers. However it did lead to another question. Sophia died March 12,1928, she was 77 years old. On her death certificate it states that she was a widow. I noticed on the 1920 census it also said she was a widow, the census I chalked up to a mistake on the census takers part. However, on her death certificate the informant was her daughter Anna McDonald Murphy. Wouldn't Anna know if her own father was dead?
I can not Prove what year Sophia moved to Ohio with daughter Anna, but I believe it was end of 1917 when Anna's husband died. Anna was a 30 year old widow with 4 children under the age of 10.
Sophia's husband was indead alive.John McDonald was living in Flintstone,MD in 1920 while Sophia was in Akron,OH in 1920.John did not die until 1941. How common would it have been for a mother to stay with a daughter and grandchildren for 10/11 years? When Sophia died her grandchildren were ages 21-16 years. Anyone have any ideas?
