Bridget,
Interesting. Thanks for sharing this with us.As I mentioned in one the earlier messages, Jean-Baptiste Otis remarried on 9 February 1733, in Baie-St-Paul, to Marie-Françoise Gagné (born 1696 and widow of Claude Gauthier).I actually descend from that second mariage.I wonder if that contract still exist and if it does say more.I will search for it as well.
I have been thinking for some time that the answer likely lies not in civil records but in other writings or types of records such as "relations" or accounts from notables or religious communities who may directly or indirectly refer to the prisoners of the summer of 1689.The arrival of a 9 year old boy must have been noted somewhere!
I just came across the following reference, which I will try to look up
Marcel Fournier, (1992), "De la Nouvelle-Angleterre à la Nouvelle-France. L'histoire des captifs anglo-américains
au Canada entre 1675 et 1760."Montréal, Société généalogique canadienne-francaise, 282 p.
Available from the Publisher:
Société généalogique canadienne-francaise
3440, rue Davidson
Montréal (Québec)
Canada H1W 2Z3
at a price of 30 $CA + 7% GST (for Canadian residents only)
It does sound very similar to the Coleman book that Shari gave in message 520.But perhaps there was additional research done...
Regards,
Sylvain Dufour
