Hope you are still out there, Cathy and Robert.I have been researching the Vinal's (a family line)for some time.I may be able to help here. But Robert you helped me as well with a peice of information you supplied to Cathy.
David was the son of Issachar Vinal and was born in Scituate, Ma. in 1742.Birth record is on file at NEHGS, Mass Archives and in Plymouth County.David married Deborah Otis who was also born 1742 in Scituate.Again there are records supporting this.David and Deborah had four sons together.David Jr., Gideon, Otis and Job.They relocated to Waldoborough, Maine. There is some annecdotal evidence suggesting David was a Torrie. There are land records in Lincoln Cty, Maine outlining where they lived etc.David was a mariner and he was called Captain David Vinal.First land records are dated 1770 or 1772 (I am writing from memory).David remarried in 1787 Waldoboro/ Nobleboro to a Mary Chapman. They had 3 daughters and perhaps a son, I have not confirmed the latter.Daughters were Ana, Caroline and Prudence.Ana died at the age of 4yrs.There is a reference to a son named Joseph b. 1793.But I have not confirmed this.David died in Scituate in 1801 and is buried there.A review of his will indicates to me that he contracted something and was quite ill.
Deborah Otis became the mystery for me.I can find no records regarding what happened to her.But Robert, your response regarding Job Otis Jr.'s will naming her in 1781 means she was still alive.Since David remarried in 1787, it leaves a six yr period for me to consentrate my search.I did find a record in the Mass Archives, an intentions announcement concerning Deborah Otis of Scituate to be married to an Ephraim Tailor (Taylor) of Newcastle Maine in 1797. It is a stretch but, I will pursue it.It could explain the absence of records.
I should note, that David Jr., Gideon and Otis, three of Deborah and David's sons, moved to Boston as soon as they could and were quite successful business men.I can find no records concerning Job.
If you should have any other questions just let me know and I will try as best I can to answer.Best regards
