Rosa d'Erina was a well known soprano/prima donna in the 1980's in NYC and the world.She was born in Armagh, Ireland on 22 Feb. 1848 and came to the USA in about 1870.She married George R. Vontom on 18 May 1884 in Manhattan, New York, New York.Her name on the marriage register was Rose Anna O'Toole.She was also known as Bridget, Rosa d'Erina (Rose of Erin) being her stage name.Her father's name was possibly Michael O'Toole and her mother's maiden name Donnelly.This is not confirmed.
George R. Vontom was born in the Isle of Jersey, England on 2 Dec. 1852, and his profession was Prof. of Music in NYC.The couple toured the area and the world together and had no children.
They had a summer cottage on St. Joseph Island, Algoma Dist., Ontario, Canada and were instrumental in establishing the St. Boniface Catholic Church there.When Rosa died on 13 Apr, 1915 she was buried in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.George died on 31, Mar. 1928 in Espanola, Sudbury Dist., Ontario, Canada, and is buried next to Rosa in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Hilton Beach, St. Joseph Island, Algoma Dist., Ontario, Canada.
