I'm looking for any help I can find in sorting out something I have found to be very confusing. Among other children, I have information on three sons of Carl Ottney (1821 - 1858) with similar or identical names. I have found a Joseph J. Ottney born to Carl and his first wife Regina Magrum on August 9, 1843 (just days before his mother's death). I believe his full name was Joseph John Ottney. Then, Carl married Barbara Batt a couple of months later and their first son was named John (b: September 3, 1844). Their third child, born on April 3, 1846 they named Joseph. What I find confusing is that my wife's ggg grandparents were Joseph and Clarissa (Frank or Franks) Ottney. I know that this Joseph was the son of Carl Ottney through family information. However, I cannot determine which of the three sons listed above was actually my wife's ancestor. I have always surmised that it was the son of Carl and Regina, however, recently I ran across information identifying John's (the first son of Carl and Barbara) wife as a Philomena Frank (perhaps a sister to, or Clarissa herself), as well as information showing that this John and Philomena are burried in the same plot as my wife's gg grandfather, Frank Ottney (the son of Joseph and Clarissa) in Jackson, Michigan. I have also found that Carl and Barbara's third child, Joseph, also moved to Eaton County, Michigan (where the family farm is) and married a Lena Stressel there. Both of these persons are also burried near Frank in the same cemetery. Is there anyone out there with information on this family that can help me sort this all out?
