Have some spare time (I am a teacher) so thought I would get this off to you.
Obediah Ovenden (born ASH 1791) married Jane Ovenden (Born Meopham 1801).
They had 7 children: Charlotte 1829, Mary 1831, Jane 1834, Thomas 1838, Jesse 1840, Sarah 1844 and William 1847.
Jane 1834 is my G G Grandmother.
She married William Humphrey 1829, and together they had 13 children. The fourth Edward Humphrey 1859, left for the Isle of Dogs where he eventually became Head Diver of the Millwall Docks.
He married Eliza Baker (1857), and their eldest son James, was my Grandfather. he married Sarah Smith. Their eldest son William Humphrey is my father. He married May Grimmer and they had three children, the youngest being me, Terence Humphrey.
So please forget what I mentioned in my previous email, Jane Ovenden was born in Ash, Kent and did NOT leave for Woolwich!
Incidentally the 1851 census seems to have the Obediah family living in the Poor House in Hodsoll Street Ash next Ridley..
One last thing. In the Tithe Maps of Kent 1839 (Sheet 21)I have found Cottages and Garden belonging to Zachariah Piggot, occupied by ABRAHAM OVENDEN in ASH next RIDLEY. This is possibly Obediah's father given the religious bent of the names!
