Does anyone know why the John Overholt d. 1813 m. Sarah Henn/Hand is listed as a son of Isaac Overholt of Louth? In Isaac's will, written 1823, proved 1825, there is no mention of John as a deceased son, nor of John's heirs (which would be typical if a son died and left offspring). John Overholt did live in Louth, but so did other Overholt lines...
Here is the will abstract for Isaac Overholt (he was then living with his daughter and son-in-law George & Catherine (Overholt) Ball in Niagara:
Will of Isaac Overholt of Louth Twp Will Date:10 May 1823 at Niagara Will Proved: 5 Nov 1825 Wife -- none mentioned Children: Ann Swarts w/o Samuel Swarts, Catherine Ball w/o George Ball of Niagara, son Joseph Overholt, Mary w/o David White, Elizabeth w/o Abraham Reyner, Barbara w/o Christian Price and Sarah w/o Rudolph Swarts Other: George Ball of Niagara for my maintenance as long as I live and dwell with him Execs:George Austus Ball of Louth and Peter Mann Ball of Niagara Witnesses:J. Butler, Peter T. Pawling and J. Ball
Barbara Ford could not explain why John was listed as Isaac's son either. She said the Canadian lines were basically done by a John Overholt (lived England), and he did not send her anything to support the family groupings.Together we had found other errors in the Canadian lines, so this may be another -- not unless someone out there has other documentation besides what is in the book ....?
