Maria Overy from Albany, NY, to Middleburg, OH
I am SO, SO glad to see this forum. I have checked for my gggrandmother EVERYWHERE and was disappointed to find that there was no forum for the Overy surname. Anyway . . . I have this elusive gggrandmother, name of Maria Overy, that exists in name only on a few censuses and death certificates. Her sister, Hannah Overy Alger, lived near her in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. They are both buried at Woodvale Cemetery in Middleburg, Ohio. Maria married John Stubbs. They had two children, Thomas Newton and Nelson John Stubbs. Maria was born c. 1823-4. We don't even really know that for sure. She changed her age on every census mention. We believe she was born in Albany, New York. I "believe" (and this is only experimental) that her father was Henry Overy. We may have located Maria in Saratoga, living with the Davenports, in the 1850 census. Then again, it may not be her. I believe that she may also be connected to Mary A. Overy Rofe, Lucinda Overy Sears, and Sarah Overy Muchler. In order to get any of this information, I have to type in "Avery". When I get to the source, there is no doubt that the name was written as "Overy" but that people are now reading it as Avery. So, even if you are related to an Avery, please check your records for any possible connection. This woman is my biggest "missing person" in the Stubbs line. If you are from Albany, New York, and would be willing to help out with look-ups for me, I would be happy to do the same for someone else. Thank you and may God bless you.
