Burrell Pace of Surry Co NC married Lydia Woodruff. They moved to the 96th District of SC aoubt 1785 with other members of the Woodruff Family. They Established the town of Woodruff in the area that became Spartan Co., then Spartanburg Co. The 1800 census of that arealists Burrell Pace with 3 males under 10yrs, 2 males 10-16yrs,1male 16-26yrs and 1 male over 45yrs, 1 female under 10yrs and 1 female 26 to 45yrs. This census means Burrell was born before 1755. If Burrell was born 1755 or before he would have been about 19yrs at the time of the 1774Surry tax list when his father John appeared with one other taxable. We know Burrell had an older brother, Richmond, proven by his petition to the NC assembly in 1781. Taxbles in those days included all males over 16yrs, thus, if Burrell and Richmond were with his father 1774, there would have been 3 taxables. Yet there were only 2. So it appears not all of John's family were with him in Surry Co. or at least on the Deathridge tax list. This certainly suggests Burrell and Richmond or Burrell were looking for a place to settle and the remainder of the family may have been waiting to travel to Surry Co.
