Re: Barbala Pallai
Hi Sharon...welcome to the world of Hungarian intrigue.I am beginning to believe that Hungarian Pallai people were just put down on the earth somehow!!!
I am also researching Pallai, and I came across your message doing a search on Barbola Pallai. However, it can't be your Barbola as this one was married in Hungary to Istvan Szabo well before yours was born.I am looking into this Barbola as a possible sibling for my grandfather. (Who also lived in Pittsburgh, Pa...fancy that!)
However, since your Barbola was born late in the century, and was married here in the states, it is possible that she had a social security number. You can request an SSA-5 I believe it is called, which is the application for the social security number. If she got a number, she had to list her parents names, and her place of birth. From there you could order the films from that area of old Hungary from the LDS and look up her birth information.Records were kept and filmed through 1895.What part of Hungary was she from?I am ordering many films and will keep an eye out for the name.
Do you know where she died?Send off for a death certificate from the state or county.Hopefully, her children or husband knew who they were. What about her marriage record?Do you know where they were married?Marriage records from the church usually included parents names, but even if these didn't, the civil and religious records should have asked her for a place of birth.
Pallai is not a very common name in Hungary...but they are elusive....
Email me with whatever scant info you may have and I will put her on my list of Pallais to hunt.
