Thank you for your reply and the information, I am sorry for taking so long to get back with you, but I have been busy outside enjoying this beautiful weather here in the South.
The sons of my John that you ask about are: William "Wiley" Blount Pannell b. abt. 1821 in Blount County Alabama. He was born to John and first wife Nancy McAnally, according to census records he lived in Alabama until what appears to be after John's death in late 1850 or early 1851(Estate record) and then appears in 1860 Tishomingo County, MS., listed as Wiley B. Pannell, then appears in 1870 as Wm B. Pannell, and 1880 as Wiley PANNILL, both censuses living in Corinth, Alcorn County, MS. He died sometime bet.1880 & 1900, prob. in MS., as his widowed wife, Elizabeth, is found living with her dau. and son-in-law, in 1900 Davidson County,Tennessee. This William lists his father's birth state as SC.
The other son: Also named William, by second wife Catherine McAnally (sister to Nancy), b. abt. 1827 in Blount County Alabama and died on 29 Nov 1901 in Blount County Alabama. This sonlists his father's birth state also as SC. Other children in different censuses has John's birth state as VA., NC. and TN. So I guess it depended on who was giving the info at the time.
I have noticed the different Pannell spellings also. On John's marriage license to Nancy it was even spelled PANEL.
I have seen this William from "Green Level", and put much thought into him as well but I can't connect my John to him either. I am now in a study of the forming of North Carolina and Tennssee from Virginia and hoping I can find a clue there. John was born around the year of these states formations and during the time of early settlements and movements.
Thank you so much and I will keep in touch on what I find and I hope you will do the same.
