Descendants of Anderson Peyton Parker & Nancy Melinda Mabry

Earlier this week, I was contacted by Brenda Ahrns, who is descended from Mariah Parker, daughter of Anderson Peyton Parker (1808) (son of Benjamin Parker & Nancy Anderson).She has in her possession, a family bible and some letters, which finally knock down my Parker brick wall.

My great great grandfather, Peyton Graves Parker (1840-1919) was in Leake Co., MS by 1859, where he married Nancy Ann Elizabeth Hobbs, then joined the CSA from Leake Co., MS.After the war, he & Nancy moved their family in a covered wagon, to Hill Co., Texas. Nancy died in 1870 and Peyton married Evaline Jane Ascue.Between his two wives, he fathered 15 children, most lived to adulthood.

We've never been able to discover who Peyton's parents and siblings were.But, since none of Nancy's relatives moved to the north central Texas area, we felt that it was most likely that they went in a wagon train along with some of his relatives.

In 1850, the first two children, listed as Mary & James Parker, were really Coons, as Anderson's wife was Nancy Melinda Mabry, who was the widow of Martin P. Coons, who she had married in AL in 1827, and he'd died in 1833.Nancy Melinda Mabry was the dau. of James Thomas Mabry (1790-1861)

I believe that Mariah L and Peter G's ages were mixed up, and that Mariah was really 12, and Peter was really 10.Plus, Peter was really PEYTON, not Peter.

Mariah married E. J. Dennis.They are found in Leake Co., MS in 1860, living near Anderson Parker.

Peyton is also in Leake Co., but is living next door to his father in law, William Alexander Hobbs.

You'll notice that Peyton was the only child listed in Anderson's family that was born in Louisiana.Anderson's father (Benjamin)and some siblings had moved from MS to LA.I don't know if Anderson was living in LA when Peyton was born, or if they were just visiting.

Some of you have that Mariah Parker married John Melton in Itawamba Co., MS, and moved to OK.However, Brenda, who is descended from Mariah, has bible records that show that Mariah Parker, dau. of Anderson, married John Calhoun Glover, and moved to Texas.I have found great census records on the families of both John & Mariah Melton, & John & Mariah Glover, and these are definately two different Mariah Parkers, and I am certain that the Mariah Parker who married John Melton & died in OK is NOT the daughter of Anderson Parker.

In looking at the names in these families... Benjamin Perry Parker (son of Anderson Peyton Parker) named children Dora Belle Parker & Oliver Milton Parker.Peyton Graves Parker named children Robert Perry Parker & Dora Belle Parker.

Anderson Peyton Parker had a brother named Isaiah Parker (b. 1812) who named a son Columbus Parker.Peyton Graves Parker named a son Columbus Campbell Parker (my great grandfather).Peyton's daughter, Mary Elizabeth Parker, married George Thomas Washington Ward, and named sons John Milton Ward & Oliver Ward.

Nancy Melinda Mabry (Peyton's mother) had a brother named James Griffin Mabry.Peyton named a son, James Griffin Parker.

I have been researching this fast & furious, and feel that I will probably discover other children of Anderson Parker that moved to Texas.

I believe that all these things taken together, prove without a doubt, that Peyton Graves Parker was the son of Anderson Peyton Parker & Nancy Melinda Mabry, and that his sister Mariah Louise Parker, did NOT marry John Melton & move to OK, rather, she married John Calhoun Glover, and moved to Texas.

I would love to correspond with anyone descended from Anderson Peyton Parker, and anyone descended from his father, Benjamin Parker, who died in Lousiana.

I would also love to correspond with those who have been reserching the ancestry of Benjamin, to find if it is generally accepted that he was the son of Robert Parker (1754-1825) & Priscilla Riddick.I have found online, that is is believed that Robert was the son of Nathanial Parker (1730) & Ann Clayton, and the brother of John Parker(1758) who was the father of Silas Mercer Parker, who was the father of Cynthia Ann Parker, who was the mother of Quannah Parker.

Our family history has been passed down that we ARE related to Quannah Parker, but I could never find the connection, since we didn't know who Peyton's parents were.But, several different families descended from Peyton's children, had passed this family lore down through the years.
