Parton (spelling irrelevant) is on my children's side.Their Partons (They descend from Benjamin born ca 1798-1801 who was the brother of Gabriel) were never in Haywood Co NC so far as I know.Gabriel and Benjamin born 1798-1801 were sons of a John Parton.Their brothers John (m Anna Allison), Randall m a Goodson, Moses m a Hostley/Hasley were in Crooked Creek, Burke Co NC, in the area that is now McDowell County. This adjoins the area of Swanannoa wherethe older Benjamin lived in Haywood Co., NC.The older Benjamin in Haywood Co NC may have been a brother to our John born ca mid 1770s.John was born in VA.The older Benjamin was born in SC.They could still have been brothers as families moved around a lot.
One of the older Benjamin of Haywood Co NC's sons married an Allison. One of our John's sons, John, married Anna Allison, dau of Rev. War soldier and his wife whose maiden name was Ryan and who had previously married a Hostley/Hasley.Proximity of Crooked Creek to Swanannoa and the fact that each man had a son who married an Allison might lead one to think that there is a connection. But we have no legend in the family of a connection.
Our John's whereabouts before 1840 are unknown. There was a John Purden on Buncombe or Haywood on an early census that may have been John.
I believe that our John came out of the family of one of the Parton/Partin families who were in Montgomery Co VA on the New River on Big Reed Island Creek in the 1780s.I believe they went to NC about 1787.I believe they were in Montgomery Co and Mecklenburg Co NC in the early 1800s.
