My apology for being so late to this post but thought I would add what few details we know about our family name.
My grandfather was James Pasman born in Goes around 1888. He was youngest of eleven children. His father's name was Gerard who was probably born in Goes around mid 1800. They emigrated to Kalamazoo, Michigan, US approximately 1889 via Ellis Island in New York. My grandfather married Emma Meijer around 1918 but I'm uncertain of her place of birth other than she was born in the Netherlands. We also understand our great grandfather's father's name was also Gerard (I have his wooden pegged oval tobacco canister containing his pipe tools. We had been told by my grandfather our name meant "barrel maker" or the english equivalent of cooper. However, Grandpa Pasman was also known to "pull your leg" with a tall tale or two....
