I am not sure exactly where to post this, but your name is Sara Preston, so I hope it is okay to post this to you...
My gr-grandmother was a Sarah Ann Preston, who married my gr-grandfather Thomas Bennett,in Stranton, Hartlepool, Durham, England, in 1851. They had several children, one being my grandfather, also named Thomas.
We know that a Sarah Ann Preston, was baptized near Mount Sorrel, Leicester, England, in 1834, and her parents were Walter and Susan Preston. However, no record can be found of this family in the Leicester Records.
My gr-grandmother was known and is recorded in a family bible as Sarah Ann Preston, when she married my gr-grandfather.Their son, Thomas, left England with his wife and family, and emigrated to Canada...which is where I am posting from.
I received a copy of my grandfather Thomas Bennett's death certificate...and his mother's maiden name is recorded as Sarah Jarvis, not Preston. This has really thrown me...and now...I am wondering if Sarah Ann was adopted by Walter and Susan Preston...or...???
By all personal written accounts, Sarah Ann was very proud of being born a Cockney...and loved the old music hall music etc etc...so she must have been born in the London area. We do know that her husband Thomas was in the London area previous to the time of their marriage.
Do you have any information about any English Prestons by the names of Susan and Walter Preston?Do you know of any 'Preston' child who may have been taken in by these Prestons...or .....???
I am also investigating the Jarvis line...but ...when I saw all your information about the Prestons on this board, I felt hopeful that you may have some records somewhere...
Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.
I have been truly stunned at this knowledge, as are my relatives in England. I would sure like to know who my gr-grandmother really was!
