Re: Barzilla Payn
Thanks for your speedy reply to my inquiry of Brazilla Payne. I am confused as to the wives of Brazilla and the children born to each of them. Do you have a pedigree chart on him? I have photos of Larkin W. Payne, believed to be Brazilla's youngest son. Larkin was the father of my grandmother, Nannie Irene Payne (Armstrong). The story you sent is quite similar to what has been passed down from my dad. The main difference is that I was always told Brazilla was mostly blind, the colored boy was a slave brought from Indiana, who helped Brazilla get around. On the day Brazilla was killed, he sent the boy for help when he realized he was surrounded. By the time help arrived, it was too late and Brazilla had been scalped. I wonder how old the children were at this time and how his wife survived. I am more interested in tracing Larkin's wife and how he came to live in the Lampasses area.
