Your information on the 1860 census is correct as far as I know. The marriage info. on Preston Payne is confusing. He is listed as marrying a Malinda Garrison in 1838 and then an Edy Garrison in 1841.I assume that Malinda must have died. Then there is another for Preston Payne even earlier than these two, so I am thinking that perhaps there were two Preston Paynes living in Ala. at that time.
What was the name of your ancestor who lived next to the Paynes in Arkansas?I know there was a family named Marks which has been mentioned as connected to the Paynes. What was the wife's name?
Sometime after 1875 I suppose that Preston died and most, if not all, of his children moved to Red River County in Texas -- that is Matthew, Chessley, Millie, and Elisha.Others may have moved also but these are the ones I am sure of.Perhaps your ancestor came also???
