It is ANOTHER Preston Payne b 1826-1832 perhaps a son of Gavin Payne of Lawrence Co, AL that I am looking for.
His children also moved to Red River Co, TX but not until after 1880.

My husband had a grandmother Annie Ferguson whose grandfather Wm. J. M. Ferguson had a son James who married Feriby Payne, dau of the younger Preston and a Athena Suggs.They were living in Jefferson Co, AL in 1870 in Lawrence Co, in 1880
