It has been some time since this was originally posted, but I will add additional information in case others are interested in the family. Two Payne's moved from Caroline County, MD to NC in the 1790's where their sons married daughters of Rowan, NC settlers. These Payne's, sons of Isaac Payne and Sarah Daulton and listed in MD historical records with them (not the Payne's given, in error, on most Isaac Payne family trees), are listed on the 1790 Caroline County, MD census--Isaac and John Pain (Payne). They are next found in the 1800 Rowan, NC Census. Isaac with one son born after 1775 and John with eight young males in his household.
Since Family Search records show John Payne married Elizabeth Porter 6 Jul 1778 in Caroline, MD, it is unlikely they are the parents of Isaiah Payne, b. 1776/78, but with Isaac Payne (wife unknown--not Nelly Collison, she married Levin Leoman Johnson) showing one son born after 1775 it is very likely he is Isaiah's father.
I have been able to trace the sons of John Payne, my ggg grandfather, and, for many, prove the relationship through YDNA. By chance, my next-door neighbor is a descendant of Isaiah though John Payne and Dionley Huff, thus my interest in that family.
Feel free to contact me for more information on this Payne line.
