Thank you! Thank you! Your greatgrandpa James was born July 28, 1909 and died May 1982. He was on the 1910 census Highland Co., Paint Twp. with Richard and Hazel. In a few days I'll get to look at the 1920 and 1930 census. I may find more info there. Do you know Hazel and Gladys' maiden names? This will help me connect the collateral lines.
I have theory about James M. Peabody's parents, but maybe Suzanne can help in this area. I have always thought that the Peabody families who came to Highland Co. by 1830 were related to us. If this is true, I can trace them back to New England in the 1600's. I'm going to start looking again and maybe this time I'll find the answer. I would be interested to know if Higland Co. kept adoption records as far back as 1840. Usually if a family took in a child, there was some record of it. I know that James' mother died after his birth and it would be a good reason for his father to find someone else to raise him. It's also possible that his father had more children than just him and without a wife, he just couldn't raise a baby alone. That means that James' mother is buried somewhere in Highland Co. All of the census records indicate that James M was born in Ohio and his parents were both from Maine. He may have been with the Redkey family as early as 1840.
