Bill,

thanks for your response to my message.
First, the Philip Pendleton (son of Henry, gson of Philip the immigrant) who is said to have married Martha Ruffin apparently ended up in Lancaster Co.I don't believe he had any sons (contrary to some histories).

Second, the Pendletons of Buckingham are descended from Philip (son of Philip Jr., gson of Philip the immigrant) who married Spice Freeland. They had 5 sons - John, Benjamin, James, Mace, and Micajah.Any of these 5 could very well have been the father of Micajah of Appomatax. There is just no paper evidence I know of to indicate which, if any, it is.

The hope is that DNA testing will help clarify the issue.
At present we have a known descendant of the Buckingham Pendletons in our DNA Project. However, his DNA is sufficiently different from that of the Appomatax Micajah descendant to make me wonder if this Micajah is a Pasquotank NC Pendleton who wandered up to the Buckingham area in the late 1700s. (Admittedly the odds of that seem small but at this point we just don't know)

BTW... I believe the Jemima Pendleton who married Giles Davidson was a dau. of this Philip and Spice Freeland of Buckingham Co.

regards, David
