Recent deed research proves Abel Pennington resided in the area of Madison Co, AL that remained a part of the Old Cherokee Nation until the Calhoun Treaty of 1817. This area known as the New Purchase-1818 became JACKSON COUNTY 1819...The Old Cherokee boundry of 1806-one mile east of what became New Market ran north to Hickory Flat (Plevna)- an 1806 squatter settlement.
