free man fr.Wilkes Co GA,Solomon Perteet
We publish a local history magazine and are attempting to locate information about a free man of color who arrived in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in the 1820's (I think). He was a plasterer and reported that he came from Wilkes County, GA. Perteet went on to invest in real estate and became wealthy but little is known about him. He would have been born in about 1747. Solomon Perteet died in 1863 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetary in Tuscaloosa.
