This was the oldest will that was found in Norwich , Norfolk, England found in Norfolk, search by the Family Tree Centre, Parkview House Hurst St., London SE 24 OEH #01 737 6615 sent with letter signed by Steve Goslin dated 8 Dec 1986.He Found only six chancery cases,six taxation returns, 3 court depositions; 11 wills from 1466 thru 1631; 36 church records; and 5 probate documents in London in addition to those found in Norwich, Norfolk.

English life expectency charts for 1830 indicate that the average life span of a male was 40 years and for females was 42.

Marriage laws allowed girls to marry at age 12 and boys at age 14 with parental consent; and age 21 for either sex, without parental consent.

These conventions and the English naming pattern was followed when names were not found in a record, or exact birth year not shown.When a last name was not found for a wife, then her husband's name was used.

Population of County was very small during middle ages, and was concentrated in villages or farms on the islands or hills in this swampy, or forested or fen
land or peat bogs. Most of Pettenhalle familes lived within 10 mi of Norwich which was a seaportbefore the land was drained in 16th and 17th Centuries.

This is my 85th or 6 winter, I just copied the forgoing from my PAF 5/2 file.
My great grandfather was a blacksmith in the 8th ILL Cav Regt. his name was spelled several different ways on official records. He was half Iroquois. I have a cousin in NY who traced the family to PA from RI, George Pettingill kept detailed records of everything, and in family records he stopped with John andhis marriage to anIrroquois woman named Amanda Cook *e) but with the rest of family he kept detailed data down to or thru 3rd generation, before he died.
