As some of you may know, (Col.) Thomas Pettus settled in Jamestown during the period that qualifies his living descendants for membership in the Jamestowne Society. Nevertheless, the society has for decades rejected applications based upon claimed descent from Thomas because the society's genealogist believed that Thomas had no surviving grandchildren.
Last week, one applicant who used information from my Pettus book as the basis for third generation information in her pedigree received a letter from the genealogist stating that her application had been approved. My book provides a logical proof based upon fragmentary evidence that Thomas had a son Stephen who married Mary Dabney.
Anyone who can submit a valid pedigree back to Stephen and Mary Pettus can now qualify for membership in the Jamestowne Society. To get the necessary information about Stephen and Mary, you will have to contact me personally.
