I tried to email you, but for some reason it didn't go thru. In reviewing my Phifer notes, I came across, from the History of Rowan Co. (p. 205):
On the headwaters of Grant's Creek in the neighborhood of the present village of China Grove dwelt in early times twofamilies very closely connected. About 1760, John Phifer, with five brothers, came from Pennsylvania and settled in Rowan and Cabarrus (then Mecklinburg) Counties.
The family is said to be of Swiss origin, originally Pheiffer. In 1763, John Phifer married Catherine, the daughter of John Paul Barringer and sister of Gen. Paul Barringer. He settled about a mile south of China Grove and they had two children--Margaret andPaul B.Paul married and died early if life, leaving two sons both of whom removed to the southwest. One son Gen. John W. Phifer represented Cabarrus Co.in the Senate of NC in 1818.

Could Peter be son of one of the "five brothers"?
Could Peter be son of one of the "five brothers"?My mom had contact with Barbara Hattan Stokes (in 1993) who had quite at bit of information about Martin Pfeiffer's ancestry. In my copies I don't find a brother John, but there was a Hans and a Johannes. Martin's father was Hans Jakob Pfeiffer from Switzerland who had three wives. I can send you copies of the family group records.

Their sister Mary is probably my ggg grandmother who married Moses Stevens. If you come across anything about Henry's parents, please let me know.

The 1830 census lists Nicholas on the same census page with Moses Stevens' brother, Christopher. Christopher married Catherine Phifer, daughter of Henry Phifer. Christopher and other Stevens went to Jackson Co., TN some time between 1830 & 1840.
