Just read this thread of messages. Jesse Long is a brother of my g,g,g grandpa Tobias Long. They were both children of g,g,g,g grandpa John Long, Sr.

I thought for about twenty years that Susannah Vannoy was the wife of John Long, Sr. However, is has been confirmed that she was not his wife.

John Long and his wife raised eleven children and lived on the north side of the New River in what is today Alleghany County, N. C. His 400 ac. farm was less than a half mile from the Virginia State Line.

Six of his eleven children moved to Indiana. The other five remained in North Carolina, including g,g,g grandpa Tobias Long. He first married Frances Stamper. Then Tobias married Susannah Vannoy, his second wife. They did not have any children, and lived our their life in Wilkes County, N. C., near the very small town McGrady.

Note: I've visited the grave site for Jesse Long in Owen County, Indiana. I've also visited the grave site for Jefferson Long, in Alleghany County, N. C. The grave is located on the north side of the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Laurel Springs.

Many members of the Phipps family were neighbors of g,g,g,g grandpa John Long. They lived both in Virginia and N. C.
