Re: Piehl Connection?
I want to help. How do you know the name of a Great-great grandmother without some link to your family between you and her? Most Piehls (if not all) did not emigrate to America until after around 1850's from Germany.Which at least for WI, would mean she was living in Germany.
The other custom for this area of Germany was to have multiple names. There was one name (after some famous royalty), and then a more common name.
Such as Wilhelmina Sophia Magdala Piehl.(used Sophia )
Do you know what area of the country your Piehls settled in?I have accounted for the Piehls in WI, but I remember there being a group of Piehls that lived out East.
The other situation is the name which is spelled both as Piehl and Piel.(Peel or Peele would not be a related spelling). I'm sure there may be exceptions.
I will be at German Fest up in Milwaukee tomorrow, so any additonal info may be helpful.
