Re: Marie Elizabeth Dorothea Pingel Walz
John Carl Pingel was my Great-great grandfather.I was told stories as a child from my grandfather about his grandfather (John) and I remember that he spoke little English mostly German as did most of my family.John was also a big man possibly six foot two and very civic minded and might of held a position in law inforcement.
His son was Jacob and my great grandfather.Jacob served in the Civil War with the Wisconsin 51st Infantry as a private. My brother has his service issued rifle.
George my grandfather was born 11-29-1899.He married Bertha Schuman. He had two brothers (that I recall), Walter and Howard and a sister Hazel. He had three sons one (Patrick or Earl), died at an early age possibly from polio or epilepsy, Edwin Lewis 5-5-1932, Arthur and a daughter Louise.
Arthur worked for trucking firm in Moorehead, Mn was married to Ardith and had two children, Susan and Charles both born in the 1960's.
Louise married Stanley Schuellschner (not sure of this spelling), and lived in the Tomah, Wi area all her life. They had four children Lynelle, David, Jean and Thomas(?).
Edwin is my dad he married Joanne Esther McCollough in Tomah Wi.He has four children Denise 10-17-1954, Lynn(me) 10-16-1957, Randall George 12-30-1958 and Russell Earl 3-25-1966.
To the best of knowledge all of the later people are still living, we don't keep in touch much.
I do remember my grandfather talking in German with my grandmother a lot as with his brother Walter.
Both men were dairy farmer in Tomah Wisconsin. My grandparents lived on what is now Magnolia Road and Walter lived a tractor ride over the hill.
If you have anything for me I would appreciate it.
