Thanks.I have some proof that Capt. John Pitts married twice.Folks Huxford has some info on the Pitts family in the various volumes of his "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia", eg. Vol. VI, pps. 66-67 about his daughter Elizabeth marrying Daniel Dampier. Huxford is not infallible - which is heresy in some circles. Murrah's Genealogy Page http://www.murrah.com/gen/http://www.murrah.com/gen/ - looked at long ago & I don't know if it is still there - I find Capt. John Pitts married to:
1. Sarah Norsworthy - about 1762 c/o of Tristam Norsworthy and Sarah Pitt
2. Frances Griffin
This is corroborated by a transcribed version of the Anthony Pitts Bible record I received some years ago (see below), which is why I would like to see an actual xerox or scanned copy of the original.
One of Capt. John Pitts daughters, Elizabeth, was the first wife of my ancestor, Daniel Dampier. As I'm descended from him and his second wife Elizabeth Scruggs, I have not followed up on the Pitts line. However, said Daniel was living with or near a number of Pitts in Effingham Co. GA, in later life as they appear in several contemporary documents - including a John J Pitts as a supporter of his RW pension application and executor of his will of 1844.
(Interesting that Daniel relies on his Pitts relatives and not the Dampier ones who are all around the area. Also interesting that Daniel Dampier did fight with the patriots in Georgia during the Revolution and got a land allotment but we have found evidence that he switched sides after the fall of Savannah. As his first wife's father, Capt. John Pitts, was "murdered" by Loyalists there must have been some interesting conversations around the dinner table or it was just not talked about - but these were very confusing and chaotic times. In many ways the American Revolution was our first civil war).
That Capt. John Pitts had a son Anthony is on the above Murrah's Genealogy Page and is corroborated by the Bible Record.
Here is the transcribed version - what you see is what I got - of the Anthony Pitts Bible record:
