That makes it a little harder but not impossible. Do you have a copy of your husband's birth certificate? Can you get them from his aunts and uncles? How about a death certificate for your mother-in-law? All these should have place names and dates that will give you a start. If the aunts and uncles were married in the Catholic church, they would have had to get baptisimal records to get married. See if you can get copies of these. Are there family stories about the old times or the old country? Interview the aunts and uncles and record them. You would be suprised at the little details that one can learn that are a big help later on. Where did your husband start school? That is another source of records that can help.
