Re: polack Thank you!
Hi there Mary,
Great to hear you are still on the forums! I was worriedthat that Bible had got lost again!! Thanks so much for responding again..and posting about this Bible again.
Naturally I'm very interested in that Bible...if you could send me a scan of the pages that would be great. I'll get my Mum to translate them. Mum was born in Germany and is able to read the old traditional German script as well as the regular variety!
We were in Germany last Easter and visited the town where all the Polack's came from, Strausberg near Berlin. Thankfully the old Church there still has the records of many of the Polacks that are our ancestors. It is amazing to think you have a living piece of history from these Polack's we have been learning so much about.
In around the 1850's they all moved to Australia and America. That Bible may even provide us with some extra insights into their reasons for shifting etc,
It would be great to get the Bible off you some day..I'll keep my eye out for an old pre 1900 Bible that I can swap you for...just not sure how many are around!!
I might also get in contact with the American branch of the Polacks...they live near Colorado/Denver now..
At the very least it would be great to know that the Bible will be looked after well into the future...(even years from now.) I will add a reference to it in my family tree work. Some of the very valuable documents we have, have since been placed into the care of Lutheran Church Archives here in Australia and also America so that they aren't lost to future generations.
Anyway as I said, a scan of the original would be wonderful.
Thank you so much for your time and help!
Matthew Polack, Melbourne, Australia.
