MATTERN and STREICH families
Hi!I'm at a complete dead-end searching for my Mattern line in Germany.
My grandfather came to NY from Germany soon after WWII.He was born in Cortmedien, Germany, in 1933, and his name is Erwin. He has six siblings - I believe this is the correct birth order - Gerhardt, Lotti, Helmuth, Elsbeth, himself, Ernst (born Jan. 2, 1937 - also came to NY, and I believe he goes by Ernest now), and Annelisa (born Nov. 3, 1947?).
I know that his father's name was Ernst. He was born Feb. 27, 1903 in Grunden, Germany, was married on April 9, 1927 in Allenburg, Germany, and died Sept. 28, 1973 in Neumunster, Germany.According to my grandfather, at some point (probably during WWII) he served in the German military. His wife was Anna Streich (maybe Striech?).She was born Feb. 11, 1905in Germany, and died April 5, 1994 in Neumunster, Germany.
I know that at some point, Ernst worked on a farm, and for a railroad. He and his wife were both Lutherans.
I also know that Anna Streich's parents were Carl (maybe Karl?) Streich, and Minna. The Streich family owned a farm and flour mill in Allenstein, in East Prussia before WWII.If I'm not mistaken, that part of Germany became annexed by Poland after the war, and I don't know anything else about that.
If anyone knows anything about the Matterns or Streichs, please get in touch with me at [email protected] is the main branch of my tree, and I've been searching for years.I'd really appreciate even the smallest bit of info that could help get the ball rolling.Thank you!
