Re: JEAN-JOSEPH POLIQUIN - MARIE-ANNE LABREQUE
I'm just staring with my Poliquin quest so I can't be of much help to you.I've only gotten back as far as Benjamin Poliquin b. abt. 1842 P of Quebec and wife, Clarice Rogers b. abt 1850 P of Quebec.I know they were in Levis, Que by abt. 1880 when son Philippe Poliquin was born.1899 handwriten note by Benjamin & Clarice's daughter-in-law states US Naturalization occured for Benjamin & son PhilippeDec 1899.I don't know when they married, who other children might have been nor when the Poliquin family arrived in the US.Somewhere early in the 20th century the name mutated from Poliquin to the present Peloquin; the death certificate 30 May 1933 for grandson Wilfred, s/o Philippe and Meranda/Maranda Laramee, has the spelling Peloquin.
Obviously, I don't know where you are located however, I do suggest that if you can make the time for a trip to Rhode Island, that you do so.There is a fabulous resource there for researchers of French-Canadian heritage in the form of the American French Genealogical Society located on Earle St. in Woonsocket.
I've only been there once ot twice to purchase some publications of their's but the vast amout of research material there is enough to make one wish that they were open more than 3 days a week.I can't wait to get started once summer is over.
Here is their website:http://www.afgs.org/http://www.afgs.org/
Good luck and who knows, perhaps in the future, we will find our Poliquin"s stem from the same person or brothers.
