Re: Porsch Family in or near Austin Texas 1880's
Sorry, I have no one in Louisiana that I know of...Great-Grandpa Porsh came from Germany to New York in the 1880's then down to Austin, Texas to be a "cowboy" on his relative's ranch. I am not sure of the relationship..older brother or uncle or cousin? Then he went through Colorado on his way to San Francisco (where he heard you could pick up gold nuggets on the streets) and from there up to Washington Territory because he had heard there were still some "Wild" Indians there. He settled in a small town near an Indian reservation but the Indians were pretty tame. He was a barber and also ran a confectionary store.
I know he had some much older brothers and sisters and I think some may have come to America but we don't have any idea of their names or any dates. he and a sister were born to the second wife of their father who was over 50 when Wilhelm (William) was born. He left nothing that named any of his siblings. We found his sister only because she wrote him a letter during WWII after her only son (a German soldier) was killed in France by American troops. She blamed William because he had come to America. He saved that letter.
