She was born 28th October 1897 (SS#has 1899)
in San Bernadino, California.
Went to Los Angeles High School, earned a bachelor's degree
from the University of California at Berkley and a
master's degree in French from Stanford University.
In 1923, she began teaching French and Art at the
exclusive Hollywood School for Girls, while also
attending night classes at the Otis Institute and the
Chouinard Art School.
While still an art student, she met and married Charles
During this time became the Famous Best Costume Designer
earning a record 35 Oscar nominations, eight Academy
Awards, and 1,131 movie credits.
Edith Head divorced Charles Head in 1938. In September
1940, she wed art director and long-time friend
Bill Ihnen.The couple moved to California's San
Fernando Valley, where they lived until his death in 1979.
Upon her completion of the film, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid
(released in 1982) was hospitalized for treatment of a
progressive blood disorder. She died on October 24th 1981,
at the age of 83.
