Re: New spelling of Preher
Saw your notes.
I have been researching the PRATHER family for over 38
years and have found many spelling variations to our
"root" spelling ... PRATER.
I have not found and/or connected any Prehers to my
family but I wanted to share my finding about the
name Praers which is the true "root" name of the
The name began as de Praers from the children of
Baron Herbert de Rye of PREAUX, Normandy... born ca.990
His son, Randolfus de Preaux became known as Randolfus
de Praers during the conquest of England by the Normans
His younger brother, Eudes "Eudo" de Rye became known
as Eudo de Steward ... he was the Ambassidor to
Edward the Confessor (King of England) and represented
William, Duke of Normandy (William the Conqueror)
before the Conquest of England in 1066.
Another brother, Adam de Preaux became known as de Stoke
because he settled in Stoke England after the conquest.
Another son, Herburt de Preaux became known a de Hilliman
Another son, William de Preaux became known as de Praers
and returned to Normandy after the conquest.
There were also daughters but I will not go into those
families as the name did not continue with them.
Don't know how this will help but just wanted to share
it with you!
Happy to help!
