Hi Larry and Betty,
Thanks for your reply. My information is as follows:
My Samuel Prentiss, for whom I have no dates, married Cornelia Ruggles, in Walpole NH4/16/1943. She was born 3/4/1820. I have this info from the John White of Wenham and Lancaster, MA book that is in the genealogylibrary.com databases.
Samuel and Cornelia had three children:
Harley 1/20/1844 in Reading MA, John Willard
b.10/8/1848 d. 3/22/1853 and Walter Samuel b. 1/27/1854. These people were not dead at the time that this book was published, so I have no death dates. I do have pictures of Harley (numerous, and Civil War Pics too) and one older one of Walter.
Harley Prentiss married Helen Campbell Lindsay, daughter of Mary Ann Watson and James Lindsey. Lindsay was spelled with an e in one book. Our recent family has spelled it with an a.They had four children named Harley Lindsay, Archer Ruggles, Marion and Cornelia.
I have multiple identified pics of these people, one of archer and many more of the girls.
Harley Lindsay Prentiss married Elvy Perkins Low in Reading. They had two daughters,
Helen Lindsay and Dorothy Low.
Helen was born 6/23/00 and died in 1989.
Helen Lindsay Prentiss married Francis Chandler Newton in 6/25.
They had four sons, Francis Chandler Newton, Jr, Robert Augustine Newton, Alan Lindsay Newton and Thomas Howard Newton.
Robert Augustine Newton, b. 9/17/28 married Marian Ruth Wheet in 1956 and had three children: Diana Cameron (me!) Jennifer Louise and Daniel Prentiss.
I married 1.John Chase Wood, Jr. (11/1/1950-11/2/1981) and had one son John Chase Wood, III
and 2. Gregg K. Dunphy and had two sons, William Newton and Timothy Newton.
I know I have some cousins out there. Apparently Cornelia (Dilly) and Marion Prentiss both married but neither had children. They left all of their possessions (with a few exceptions)to Tommy Buckle, son of Hilda Cameron Prentiss (Archer Ruggles Prentiss daughter) and her husband Gould Buckle.
I would like to have a copy of your DAR application as well, so as so compare dates (ones that I have!) From what I can tell, it is certainly possible that Samuel Hogg Prentiss was the father of my Samuel Prentiss. I have a picture of him as well.
He was a fifer, musician and private in the Civil war, and died shortly after mustering out. He served with his son.
I am in the process of uploading my genealogy to rootsweb
Diana
