Janice, your branch were some of the German families attracted to Russian by Catherine the Great who were subsequently taken off their lands. My branch came from Flatow, East Prussia (now Zlotow, Poland). So if there is a connection it would have been before the migration to Russia.
I am trying to establish a link back to this slavic leader Prybislav, Prince of the Obotrites, circa 1150 A.D. who fought against the invading (and crusading) Saxons, led by Henry the Lion.Ultimately he lost but married off his daughter to either Henry or his son, and they set up the only Slavic ruling house in Germany (Mecklemburg).I don't know if this is the slavic nobility that our family stories referred to.But I am looking for other such stories among the Priebes of this world and any connections they may have established.Does this book make any mention of such things? Thanks for checking.
