Eve (SHAFFER) MOHNEY remd. __ PROCIOUS!
Does anyone have "positive" proof of the 2nd husband of Eve (SHAFFER), b. 30 Sept. 1797, Rebuck, Northumberland Co., PA. d/o John SHAFFER, SR. & Margaretha Elisabetha (SCHNEIDER) early settlers in Redbank Twp., Armstrong Co. PA. [now Clarion Co.]
Here Eve met Isaac MOHNEY (as spelled now) whose father owned the adjacent lands, Isaac b. 15 Aug. 1788, Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., Northampton Co., PA.His funeral was on 2 Feb. 1834, in West Millville, now Hawthorn, Clarion Co., PA. Isaac was a twin to Abraham Mohney who died in Ohio ca. 1840!
Eve remained a widow for awhile, on 17 June 1843, she was still Isaac's Widow. However, by 26 Septemer 1844, when Isaac's Estate was being settled by his brother, Johannes "John" [not the son!!] a receipt signed by her & the son, John of Isaac's clearly states Eve had then remarried a Mr. PROCIOUS.Who was the man??Why oh why couldn't they have "named" him solved umpteen thousand searches!!!!Here's a "clue" perhaps!!
21 Oct. 1850 Census in Eldred Twp., Jefferson Co., PA. pp. # 18 has -

EVE PROCIOUS47 Yr. wife
Betsy PROCIOUS19 Yr. Dau.

Caroline "14 Yr. Dau.
George PROCIOUS 12 Yr. Son
Eli PROCIOUS04 Yr. Son
John MOOTS21 Yr. Laborer
Often Census taker's "assumed" all children had the same surname!! This often is not the case!!Could "Anna" above have been Margaret "Anna" MOHNEY as the age fits perfectly! While the age is off for Eve, often women as well as men gave "false" information!!!!I've seen Census records where they aged "only" two years in a 10 year period!!!!Then suddently 20 years later they "aged" considerably and listed their "true" age once past "military age" etc.Everyone had "tricks up their sleeves" then same as today!!!!Folks never change!I "myself" have passed for 15 to 20 yr. "younger" than what I actually am!!Aaaaah Hummmm... comes from living a "good life!"[I inherited it!]Eve, afterall is my "Ancestor!"Where oh where, did that "little girl go???"Mr. "P" swept her off her feet and they "vanished!"Where?????
Folks searching PROCIOUS also search BROCIOUS / BROSIUS, etc. as in the German language the "B" and "P" are interchangeable. Also legend goes "the brothers got to "feuding" and one changed his surname...hence "P"rocious and he "wasn't related to that nasty former "B"rocious!" quote!!Oh yea, he was!!!!Many, many a person did likewise!!
Sorry e-mail doesn't work... simply post it, and "hopefully" I'll catch your post!
