Thomas Bailey and his wife Sophia (nee Proudfoot) are on the passenger list for the Neptune, an emigrant ship that arrived in Sydney, Australia on 27 September 1839. Most of the passengers were from Salehurst and the surrounding area.

Thomas was a farm labourer, born 1808, while Sophia was born in 1811. No native place is given on either of the copies of the passenger list in my possession. They had four children with them, Hannah, Harriet, Lydia and Benjamin.

Also aboard the Neptune, was another Bailey family - William Bailey and his wife Mary Anne (nee Bailey). They and their five children were from Salehurst.

I'm descended from various families on board - Bakers, Marchants, Rofes - and am exploring the connections between the families.

Dennis
