J. S. PROUDFOOT
John S Proudfoot, bn about 1808, died in California, Married Sarah Call, on December 12, 1839, she was bn 1812, died 1883. Son James B Proudfoot, bn ca 1840, married Mary Jane Nancy Ginter. The news article below states he was a native of Milesburg, Centre County, Pa. But I find no records of his parents. Some speculation I have is he may have been born in or near Lancaster County, Pa, and name MAY have been changed from Amish, "Stolzfus", translated as "Happy Feet" or 'Proud Foot" A local Amishmen in my locality (PA) told me that is the translation, and his family took back the German verson due to ridicule. I understand J.S Proudfoot died in California, and his burial is unmarked, and a paved road is now set upon his tomb.
