Re: PROVANCE in Trenton, MO.
I am going to put this here in hopes it will help others because I for onehave had one big problem with the Province/Provance living around Trenton, MO.
John Mark Province born abt. 1826 in TN. and Barbara Crites born abt. 1831 in MO. are my gggrandparents. We do believe that they stayed in Dunklin County, MO. Now they do have a son born Jefferson John Province born in 1857 Cape Girdeau,MO. and I guess he could have moved near Trenton, MO. but I don't much think so.
John Mark Province has a brother named Isaac Harmon Province born 1820 in TN. married Harriet Blair.
There is a census in 1860 Daviess County, MO. on this family.
Now this is what I have on this family.
Isaac Province - b. Sept. 25,1820 in Greene County, TN. and died April 22, 1879 in Melbourne, MO., buried Mitchell Cemetery. He married Harriet Blair Jan. 25, 1842 in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born Jan. 25, 1823 in TN. and died Oct. 11,1877 in Melbourne, MO.buried Mitchell Cemetery. Their son John Mark Province born 1850 in Cape Girardeau, MO. died abt. 1929, Melbourne, MO. buried Mitchell Cemetery. married Catherine Connell. married Jane White. John Marks, grandmother had a brother by the name John Mark Harmon and that is where the name John Mark came from. We also know the story on his name sake, John Mark Harmon.
I knew nothing about the disagreememt between the Gott's and the Province's. Wonder what happened to cause just a terrible fight? I am going back to look at the Mitchell Cemetery records today. I did know that Alphretta Province married George Gott. Got work to do. Thank You for their story. Got to past your story on to the rest of the family.
I haven't found all my notes on this family where I have mydates from Mitchell cemetery. I will try to locate them today.
